Back in the dirt!

No Bill, it’s not a rat!  It’s a St. Joseph statue.

P1010627- Re-Planting St Joseph

A month ago, when we put our Houston townhouse up for sale, our daughter said, “Be sure to get a St. Joseph statue to bury in the yard.”  It wasn’t until we stopped laughing our butts of that we realized it was no joke !  If you’ve never heard of it, try Googling “St. Joseph statue”

So off we went and found a local Church’s gift shop.  As we walked in, the woman behind the cash register asked if she could help us.  Lynne said, “Do you have any St. Joseph  statues?”  To which the woman replied, “You mean the ones to bury when you’re fixin’ to sell your home?”  We said yes.  She told us that she was currently sold out; an order was on it’s way; she orders 50 at a time, and they sell out within two weeks!

They come as “St. Joseph Home Sales Kits” – and are priced from $1.99 up to about as much as you want to spend.  I’ve seen home sale kits for $185.00  I bought min from Amazon.com for $4.25 and 2 days later the UPS man delivered it!  (That same item is $5.50 today???)

I put the plastic statue in a Flavor Savor bag, vacuumed the air out and went out front. I dug a hole about 12” deep and stuck St. Joseph in it, head-down and facing the house.  I filled the hole, Lynne said a Hail-Mary and crossed herself.

THE VERY NEXT DAY WE GOT AN OFFER !!!!!!!!!!!!

It started way too low and a few days later we’d negotiated to a position where we were $1,000 apart – and yeah, I should have taken it, but I didn’t……..  But HEY – St. Joseph did his part!

So, we’re having an OPEN HOUSE in a few hours and we though it would be a good idea to dig up St. Joseph and re-plant him.  So we did!
